Hi all, I've been experiencing a whole laundry list of health problems for several years now. I really think most of my problems are neurological and caused me to develop anxiety attacks, but I don't know. I just know that a lot of my problems started BEFORE I ever began having issues with anxiety. My main problems are as follows: EXCRUCIATING pain on the back-right of my head that is there pretty much 24/7. It feels like someone jabbed a knife through my skull. Poor balance (I can't stand still because I sway and feel like I'm going to fall) Awful memory Trouble remembering words Smelling burnt smells at times (doesn't happen really anymore, but it used to all of the time about 2 years ago) Involuntarily biting my tongue when I'm about to nod off to sleep Going into a sort of dreamlike state when I close my eyes... I start envisioning choppy, dreamlike scenarios, but I know they're not dreams because I'm half awake and JUST closed my eyes Inability to concentrate on anything Urinating every 40ish minutes Episodes where I feel on the verge of losing consciousness Gagging fits 24/7 pressure/pain in the center of my chest And yes, panic attacks when I go in public, but they don't happen all of the time and sometimes even happen when I'm in bed at home, so I don't know if they're even panic attacks necessary. On Tuesday, I went to a doctor finally and gave her a list of the problems I've been having, and she wrote me off as a case of anxiety and handed me a prescription for Xanax before even asking me about any of the other problems. I take xanax if i feel a seizure is coming on or after a seizure to help relax me or i will take it for anxiety. since i am on another medication i cannot take valium. i feel like the xanax does not do much for my muscle pain, which the valium used to. (i take either .5 or 1 mg of xanax.) thanks, Jenn Both Valium and Xanax are in the same class of drugs, but work slightly differently from each other. Valium and Xanax both have a tranquilizing effect, which means that either one can work to relax you. Each one of these, however, have specific things that they do better than the other. There can be several reasons for needing either one of these relaxants, and though most of these reasons are temporary, you still want to makes sure that you are taking the right one for you. For this reason you want to be as informed as possible when considering Valium vs Xanax. I have epilepsey and I am prescribed lamictal once a day to help control my seizures. My question is, does xanax help control seizures the same way klonopin does, bc they are both benzos. I am wondering because, if not, I'm going to talk to my doctor about switching me to klonopin.. it would make more sense considering they are both used for treating anxiety. Xanax is part of a group of medicines called benzodiazepines. These drugs have several effects on the body, including: * Reducing anxiety; * Causing sleepiness; * Relaxing muscles; * Stopping seizures; * Impairing short-term memory. All medicines in this category can have these effects to some degree, depending on the specific benzodiazepine that is being taken. Most evidence shows that the benefits of alprazolam in treating panic disorder last only 4 to 10 weeks. However, people with panic disorder have been treated on an open basis for up to 8 months without apparent loss of benefit. In the US, alprazolam is FDA-approved for the management of anxiety disorders (a condition corresponding most closely to the APA Diagnostic and Statistical Manual DSM-IV-TR diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder) or the short-term relief of symptoms of anxiety. In the UK, alprazolam is recommended for the short-term treatment (2–4 weeks) of severe acute anxiety.
