I started taking Sertraline back in May of this year. First dose was 50mg then increased to 100mg, when I was still feeling really anxious. I increased it to 100mg in July and for a while felt ok (well as ok as you can feel on anti-depressants). But, the last few months I have been feeling really nauseous. Yes I've been on Sertraline since June of this year. I have been feeling nauseas and other gastric symptoms, on and off since the summer. I thought maybe it was viral, went to the doc and he said it was probably the medication. GP not sure if it is related to Sertraline (thinks that's likely cause) but am also being investigated for Vit B12 deficiency. He offered something for the nausea too, but not keen on taking to many drugs. When I accidentally forgot to take one the other night. I am on 150mg and was on 200mg but came down as GP thought 200 too high a dose. Also said to him that I thought it was weird that it had only just started in the last couple of months, but he seemed to think this was ok. No am not coming off ADs any time soon Twiglet but it's a long story - so I won't go into it. I think it's strange that the nausea has only started in the last couple of months and seems to suggest it isn't the Sertraline but who knows....... I see a psychiatrist every 3 months and he'd said I could go up to 200 and I thought this would help but it seemed to make me worse. I think nausea is such an insignificant symptom as far as a GP is concerned that they aren't overly bothered by it. Wouldn't have thought missing one dose would affect side effects but don't really know. Oh god it's all so confusing isn't it...........maybe ask the GP for something for the nausea - I intend to do that when I see her next. The GP I saw was not the one I saw who put me on Sertraline. It's used for depression, anxiety, panic disorder, OCD, and a number of other conditions. Sertraline is used for a number of conditions, including major depressive disorder (MDD), obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder (SAD). The comparative efficacy of sertraline and TCAs for melancholic depression has not been studied. A 1998 review suggested that, due to its pharmacology, sertraline may be more efficacious than other SSRIs and equal to TCAs for the treatment of melancholic depression. A meta-analysis of 12 new-generation antidepressants showed that sertraline and escitalopram are the best in terms of efficacy and acceptability in the acute-phase treatment of adults with unipolar MDD. Sertraline used for the treatment of depression in elderly (older than 60) patients was superior to placebo and comparable to another SSRI fluoxetine, and TCAs amitriptyline, nortriptyline (Pamelor) and imipramine. Sertraline had much lower rates of adverse effects than these TCAs, with the exception of nausea, which occurred more frequently with sertraline. In addition, sertraline appeared to be more effective than fluoxetine or nortriptyline in the older-than-70 subgroup. placebo in elderly patients showed a statistically significant (that is, unlikely to occur by chance), but clinically very modest improvement in depression and no improvement in quality of life. A meta-analysis on SSRIs and SNRIs that look at partial response (defined as at least a 50% reduction in depression score from baseline) found that sertraline, paroxetine and duloxetine were better than placebo.
